I purchased Castrol | Dexron III certified ATF fluid today at a local retailer (Canadian Tire), only cost $5.95 for 1L. I removed the Quick Adjuster | Spring Preload assembly from the running board and the Quick Adjuster plastic cover which must be removed to get access to the 12mm bolt / connector hose for draining / filling the Master Cylinder. I turned the adjuster knob so it had some resistance than backed it off a couple of turns and removed the bolt / connector hose. Once the bolt / connector hose was removed I took the Master Cylinder away and drained it completely. I then turned the adjuster knob to full Hard (5 plus) and started to add the ATF fluid. I added the fluid until it overflowed and then turned the adjuster knob approx. 1/4 turn towards soft, I than took a very small screwdriver and inserted in the Master Cylinder which depressed the cylinder which lowered the ATF fluid level. I then added more ATF fluid and repeated this step until the Master Cylinder was completely full and overflowing. I then reconnected the bolt / connector hose and tightened. I then tried turning the Adjuster Knob and I had resistance throughout the entire Master Cylinder stroke settings, from 0-5 (soft – hard). I also checked the Actuator (inside the track) and when I turned the Adjuster Knob the Actuator did move up and down perfectly. I also checked to see if I had any ATF fluid leaking from the Actuator or any of the components and I have no leaks at all...
The Quick Adjuster | Spring Preload is now working as originally designed, perfectly...
I must admit, you must be VERY careful not to allow ANY air into the Master Cylinder or have any leaks or you will have air in the system and the Adjuster Knob / Spring Preload will not work as designed. As they say, when it works, it works great!
